NJMA Needs Your Support!

September 4th will be the first day that you can officially ride in the state of Pennsylvania without a mandatory helmet and the vote to support modifying the helmet law was truly bipartisan with members from both parties voting for freedom. Now NJMA is organizing to change the mandatory helmet law here and the battle in New Jersey will be a difficult one. The last time we had a vote to eliminate the helmet law here, we were only able to get about 1/3 our representatives to support the bill. This means that we have a lot of work to do.

We will need a strong grassroots effort to be successful in our endeavor. We were informed by ABATE of PA that after the successful passage of their bill the Pennsylvania Senate, the bill was threatened in the House because of proposed amendments. If any amendments had been added to the already approved Senate bill, it would have necessitated returning the bill to the Senate for another vote, and that could have delayed passage by a year. It was the grassroots efforts of people like you visiting their representatives and emailing them at the critical moments that kept the threat from derailing the effort.

We would now like to develop a list of people who we can count on to contact their representatives by email at specific times to help us in our efforts. (Of course you can also call, visit, or just mail them as well). If you would like to do your share in this effort, please email with a subject of "Grassroots List" , and we will add your name to our grassroots email list. Please include your home town name and zip code. This will help us to determine who you representatives are. We will use this list to keep you regularly posted on our progress and to inform you when action is needed. We will need to have thousands of people on this list to generate the number of responses that will be neccessary for our success. There are presently over 200,000 registered motorcycles in the state of New Jersey. Think of the impact on our representatives when they receive emails from just 10% of these riders on the same day as a breaking issue!

NJMA respects your privacy and your email address will be used only by NJMA and will not be distributed to any other organizations or individuals. Emails will also be sent to only one person at a time so your address will not appear in a large "email list" in the header.

Please take the time to join us in this collective effort to secure the freedom of choice that is rightfully ours. Together we can make this happen!
